Your Spring HVAC Checklist for Your Florida Home
Winter has come to an end and spring is here with us. What this means is that your heating system needs to be rested while the cooling system kicks on. Spring is by design a warmer season and chances are high that you won’t use either the heating system or the cooling system. Because of this, you can take the opportunity and a little HVAC maintenance. Remember summer is right next on line where your AC or heat pump will be required to run efficiently.
To ensure you do the right thing this spring, below is a checklist for your Florida home as you prepare it for summer time.
Changing Air Filters
Air filters are supposed to be changed every month so that the air flow throughout your home can be uniform and continuous. What will happen if you don’t regularly change your air filter is that dirt and dust will build up causing an obstruction of your air flow. In turn, this makes your HVAC system work extremely hard to heat or cool your home.
Checking All HVAC Components
It is important to do a physical check on all your HVAC components to confirm that they are working right. For instance, if you find your system not heating or cooling your home as per your expectations and the temperature set, then it means there is a problem with your thermostat that requires professional maintenance. Beware of strange sounds and smells because these could be pointing out to an important development you cannot afford to ignore.
Tighten Loose Electrical Connections
Faulty and loose electrical connections can make unsafe the operation of your HVAC system. The immediate impact this has on your unit is to reduce its lifespan and that of its components. Tightening of connections should be one of the regular steps in your checklist.
Lubrication and Cleaning of Indoor Components
The efficient working of your HVAC system is largely dependent on the cleanliness and lubrication of its indoor components such as blower fans and coils. Moving parts that are not regularly lubricated may end up rusting and causing wear and tear. By cleaning and lubricating these components, you are preventing any future problems from developing on your system.
Cleaning of the Outdoor HVAC System
Grass, leaves, and dirt may block your vents. If you do not take time and clean them out, they will ultimately restrict the air flow within your home which will in turn put pressure on your HVAC system lowering its efficiency.
Checking the Refrigerant Levels
As summer gets closer, temperatures will start rising. This should prompt you to ensure your AC is up to the task, operating at peak condition. One of the best ways to prepare for this is to check your refrigerant levels and ensure that the unit is efficiently and effectively cooling your home.
All the above maintenance tasks must be performed for you to have peace of mind that your system will take you through summer. Don’t wait until the hot season begins because this will make it more costly to repair your HVAC system and you may spend days in sweltering heat as contractors queue you up.
